the first beans of CHRISTMAS! seeing the bright red bags at starbucks announces holiday cheer to me and i always get a little giddy at the sight. even though i'm not pressing these days (in favor of espresso) i was compelled to get a bag of christmas blend beans. they will be a nice touch to accompany pumpkin pie and other goodies at our thanksgiving feast. :-)
i had the joy of snuggling with my two grandbabies yesterday eve whilst their mama and daddy went out on a date. juliet slept through most of our time together in contrast with emma's unrelenting state of "high-powered busy bee". we were blessed to have them and, what a coincidence, i slept like a baby last night after they left! ;-)

i don't know why... i just knew i needed a "twinkle fix"... so i "planned" a "spontaneous" metropolitan girlie adventure for the evening. we headed north to our first destination, pentagon row... as the sun began to lower, the twinkles began to make their appearance. pretty window displays of "lush and sparkle" were an eye treat, while around a corner we discovered lighted trees and stores (more twinkle!) and little ice skaters making their rounds on smooth, white ice in the center of it all. our next whim was fashion centre and at least 1,000 strings of twinkle lights with beribboned cherubs intermingled. i was chastized by mall security for taking pictures of the oversized tree and zillion twinkles (security concerns, he said). i sadly packed my camera away until we moved on to our next destination... gravelly point! multi-colored lights and watery reflections surrounded us there as planes flew up over our heads. next... south for a round of liquid warmups at starbucks. full of yummy treats and twinkle-cravings nearly satisfied, we finally headed home via old town alexandria for a final dose of holiday sparkle and were not too disappointed. we're home now and headed to bed as visions of twinkle lights dance in our heads. it all started here... a 2 hour rainy day adventure ensued... see it unfold at pixelicious v2.1
we visited the girlies on friday for more mothercare. the young aunts couldn't be happier (along with the not-so-young-but-not-too-old grandmum!). juliet is a precious baby and perfectly delicious. emma is such a snuggler and a wonderful entertainer. what beautiful baby girls! (and they're mama's not too shabby either!)
got two good "enter to win" emails today from thinkgeek and fender. i guess sharing them here decreases my chances of winning. oh, well... if i don't win these maybe you will.
run over to thinkgeek and enter their contest for a $1500 shopping spree. according to their website... "Only one entry per household, attempted duplicates will be tickled until they pee, then discarded with extreme prejudice and Holiday glee (using Perl of course)". don't mess with these geeks... they're scary! (but do enter to win!)
then go to fender and try to win a lovely strat with all kinds of geek goodies installed, including TWO (not one!) humbucking pickups. you NEED this!
yes, i still wanna be a rock star when i grow up! having survived my teenage years through the 70's i must be doomed to this still-flickering flame of desire. toying around with the band name generator at musician's friend yields some great results, most of which would qualify me to perform at the 9:30 club in georgetown. what's your band name?
we've been helping ashleigh out with emma and juliet for a couple days. aaron had to be at the office for some training that was scheduled before they were ever expecting a baby, so we filled in for him during the day. i am blessed to get to share in caring for ashe and her girlies. it's nice to recall those early days after the birth of a newborn and revisit them vicariously through ashe (sans the sleep deprivation!). i love watching my baby girl be a mother to her own babies. sweet. :-)
literally. we turned the heat on again on saturday evening after a respite due to the previous week's glorious "indian summer" weather. i noticed around 11 pm that my fingers were numb as they hit my keyboard, so i checked the thermostat and finally figured out that there was no heat flowing through the house. contrary to the gas company's advertising, their answering machine informed me there was no nobody home at their "24-hour" number and i should call them back during regular business hours. (addendum: you can read the middle of the story if you want, but the end of it is that several days and pilot re-lightings later we discovered our furnace is shot and needs to be replaced. will the money grubbing problems never cease?! not to mention we'll be without heat for another week until it's installed)
happy BIRTHday! stats here

for that call.
waiting for grandbaby #2 to signal her mama
that it's time to make her appearance.
waiting for her mama and daddy to signal me
that it's time to bring the babysitter (auntie) and labor gofer (mois).
i am looking forward to all of it
(okay, not the "hurry up and wait" part of it)
and i am honored to be joining this
sweet family for their blessed event.
should be soon. :-)
