Joyeux Noel Banner

Joyeux Noel Banner: JOY

I finally completed my Joyeux Noel pennant banner (and hung it!) on Christmas Eve. I was going for the Paris Flea Market look... whatever that is... never been to Paris nor a flea market there. ;-)

Anyway, it took many hours and there was more I wanted to do to it but finally decided "less is more" and declared it Fini!

Note: The banner is about 11 feet long from end to end. Each pennant is 9" x 12". Pennants are constructed with a backing of Fredrix Canvas Pad paper canvas, then lightly glued layers of solid and printed paper and cardstock. I sewed one seam inside the edge each pennant to hold everything in place. Each pennant was "aged" with various inks and inky techniques.

Tom Jones

I cried when I found this under the Christmas tree. It was 1969 and I was almost 10 which, I suppose, explains my hyper-emotive reaction. ;-) I loved this album then and I still think it rocks... Vegas style, of course.

This is the Tom Jones I loved as a kid...

And here he is at a recent performance... a little dorky but he's still got it... sort of... or not so much. :-\

QotD: By My Favorite Artist

Young Girl Reading

I am reluctant to declare one favorite artist, but I will at least offer one of my favorite paintings, Young Girl Reading, by one of my favorite artists, Jean-Honore Fragonard. This is the first piece of fine art that caught my eye as a little girl. There was a special offer on the back of a Life cereal box... (it must have been around '69 or '70)... and there were four prints you could choose from if you mailed in the box top. I showed it to my mom, declaring I wanted to acquire this beautiful painting for my room. She surprised me by going to the National Gallery of Art to buy the print for me, then had my father craft a suitable frame. I don't remember if they gave it to me as a gift for a special occasion or what, but I was thrilled to receive it and treasure it as one of my prized possessions to this day. :-)
